Setting Up an Outdoor Clothesline Is Easy
Before the day is over, you can dry your laundry on an outdoor clothesline. A pulley or retractable system will sustain the weight of the lines, and is adaptable to single family homes as well as apartment balconies. You can rig one or more lines from a wall to the outdoor clothesline post or between two posts. Another benefit to the pulley system is that the lines can be operated by seniors and petite people, and be removed when not in use.
If you would like to forgo a ready-made kit, try building your own outdoor clothesline. Decide on whether or not you will use existing posts (natural or man-made) or need to buy them. You will need appropriate brackets or anchors, screws, steel lines with plastic coating, and a crossarm for each post. You may need a shovel and/or saw if starting posts from scratch. Other tools include measuring tape, screws, hammer, drill, and of course, safety goggles. Have a freshly-washed load of laundry ready and break it in.

An Outdoor Clothes Dryer for All Yards
When you think of an outdoor clothes dryer, do you picture a large yard? Sure, it’s nice to have considerable space between laundry, the patio, and the garden, but there are dryer shapes and sizes for all settings. Umbrella and foldable styles are viable options for tighter spaces. Hang underwear and socks racks from single- and double-rotary styles; tower, accordion, and fan shapes are also handy, especially if yard space is shared. For larger items such as blankets, drapes, sheets, slipcovers, and towels, make sure they’re hung from horizontal parallel lines.
If you're using something not labeled specifically as an outdoor clothes dryer, make sure that it has a line or shelf coating easy to keep clean. For dryers that are permanent fixtures outside, use a cover to protect it from the elements and animals. Whether you have your own washing machine or need to use the laundromat, having an outdoor clothes dryer is eco-friendly and conserves energy, and who can resist that fresh-air scent?

Moth Balls Preserve Cherished Items Through the Seasons
If you’re not using moth balls to preserve delicate or wool blankets and clothing, you may be risking irrevocable damage. Moths, silverfish, and mice can squeeze into extremely tiny spaces and chew on your treasured belongings, often undetected before it’s too late. By placing moth balls and delicate items together in airtight garment bags, storage bins or trunks, you prevent any harmful critter from feasting on your possessions. The sealed environment allows for the chemicals to build up and create an air that deters critters, that are either just within the bag or become absorbed by the container.
Moth balls are usually sold in packs, and are for one-time use. When you’re ready to take your things out of storage, open them up in a well-ventilated room or preferably outside. Discard the repellent, add some scented fabric to your belongings, and wash to freshen. When it’s time to pack them away again, seal them back up with new moth balls. It's a quick and convenient way to preserve your favorite clothing.
