June 20, 2003, Newsletter Issue #62: Tile floors

1

Tip of the Week

Question:
Will using a ski exercise machine (with an exercise equipment mat underneath) on a tile floor (tile size is 1 ft. x 1 ft.) cause any damage to the floor or the mortar? We`d probably use it 4 times a week, 40 minutes at a time. Thanks - Nancy
Answer:
Nancy; It shouldn´t. There is always a possibility that, if the subfloor is not structurally perfect, a grout line or a tile may crack. However, even if that happens, the beauty of a tile floor is illustrated. If a tile cracks, just replace it. If the grout line cracks, just regrout it. I have had to replace some cracked tiles in my own house because of kids dropping a heavy object. Piece of cake. Home Improvement Guru
