March 8, 2002, Newsletter Issue #8: Your home tool kit

Tip of the Week

A home tool kit is not only convenient, it is a necessity, even if you live in a dorm. But what should you buy to keep in it?
* A claw hammer can be used for nailing, unnailing, "persuading" a stubborn part, or even on a big spider.
* Screwdrivers are confusing. You can buy all the drivers you will need in one package by getting the type which uses interchangable tips. The extra tips are stored in the handle.
* Buy a pair of adjustable pliers (Channel lock is a good brand), and a pair of vise-grip needle nose. They are both indispensible.
* A place to keep your tools is probably the most important piece of equipment you can buy. A Bucket Boss is a great investment. It is a series of pockets that fit into a 5 gallon bucket.
These are the bare basics, but they will give you a good start. FAIR WARNING: Once you go to the tool department at your local Do-It-Yourself store, you will probably become addicted. There are more cool things there than you can imagine, and most of them you just can`t live without.
