October 3, 2003, Newsletter Issue #76: Painting door jambs

Tip of the Week

When painting the interior of a doorway which room should the paint match? (our kitchen is yellow and our dining room is green and we don`t know what to do with the inside of the doorway) Thanks!

Dear DIYer;
If there is a door that closes, paint the jambs so that one color shows with the door closed. For instance, close the door, and paint the kitchen side of the jambs yellow, and the dining side green.

If you have a cased opening, which means there is no door- just the opening- , it is purely your choice which color to paint the jambs. Try it both ways to see which one you like the best. It is only a coat of paint and you can always change it.
