February 21, 2003, Newsletter Issue #55: Shower water pressure

Tip of the Week

Dear Home Improvement Guru;
The water pressure from my shower is very low. When I pull the button on the tub spout, water still comes out of the tub spout. What can I do?

Dear DIY`er;
This is an easy fix, as well as inexpensive. Remove the tub spout by turning it counterclockwise (remember: righty tighty, lefty loosey). It may be snug. While you are at it, remove the shower head the same way.
Put the spout and the shower head in a bowl and cover with white vinegar. Let them soak for several hours, working the button on the spout once in a while.
The problem is that there is lime built up on the slide in the spout. The vinegar will dissolve the lime.
Reinstall both parts, and enjoy.
