Is sheet rock toxic if inhaled?
Dear DIYer;
I suppose it depends on how much is inhaled, but no, it is not toxic as a rule. Sheetrock is made of gypsum, which is basically similar to chalk. When I breathe a lot of sheetrock dust without a mask, I usually cough until I get rid of the dust, but it won`t do any permanent damage. It is a good idea, though, to wear a dust mask when working with rock. Dust masks are available at your DIY store in packages of from 5 to 100 masks. One mask will last all day.
